First gig shoot-out

Last night my new D60 saw first shoot-out at Linnanmäki (amusenment park in Helsinki). There was season ending show. Live band was called Jean S.

Also it was time to me to get to know my new camera. Fortunatley almost all Canon cameras work with same idea so it wasn't hard to take pictures with D60. Camera took quite ok pictures altough I used maximum ISO, 1000. I would have liked to use even ISO 1600 if it would have been possible because shutterspeeds were too slow, avg. 1/60s at 70mm(x1,6). One thing is now more than 100% sure, I want battery grip ASAP! I was suprized that cameras buffer didn't slow me down even once, because I shoot RAW only. Gallery from show you can find at my Pbase gallerry. Please free to comment pics. I'm more than 100% satisfied with my investment and I hope that I will have lot of more shootings in the future.

New hardware, finally digital!! =)

During this week I have update my current gear. I bought used Canon D60 body and Canon 28-135mm/f3.5-5-6 USM IS lense. I could say finally I have shift to digital time. Unfortunately camera´s owner didn´t have battery grip so I have to buy it because it feels so small and unstable without it even with 28-135IS. Of course it can be also caused because I have used to use my EOS-1 SLR camera which is build (...and weights) like a tank.

At the moment I have take just about 30 pictures with new D60, but I hope that I have time to test it more during this weekend. Until now I have already notice some things about D60. If I shoot inside I have to set exposure about +1 to get correct exposure. Also Auto White Balance isn´t so accurate as it´s for example in my friend´s 300D. But when I set AWB manually it gives me wonderful results.

Another hardware update was Canon 28-135IS lense. It´s just a wonderful lense because it has IS (Image Stabilizer). Picture quality is good for price, but of course it isn´t as good as "L" lenses. It has quite bad barrel dissortion on 28mm wide open. AF speed is quick thanks to USM motor. I had just only one bigger dissapointmnet with this lense, build quality. It somehow feels very plastic. But for summary I have very pleased with new gear overall. I will post some new thoughts about new gear later when I have tested more.

In future I hope that there will come more pictures more often to my gallery. I think it´s now more easy because I have DSLR;)

Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary

Couple of weeks ago I had my hardest photographical “job” to photograph my grandparents “official” 50th wedding anniversary portrait. Skills what I learned in “Models in Old Town” workshop were very useful. I have now added best pictures to my gallery under “People” gallery.

New pictures in my gallery, Vappu 2005

Vappu is finnish labour celebration day. It is held annually 30th april. This event was my first serious "street photography" tryout. During the event I found that "right moments" to take pictures will come very quickly so I have to be ready all the time if I want to get nice pictures. I have to admit that I missed some good shots because I wasn’t ready to shoot. It was very good practicing for the future, so what I can say…just more practicing!

You can find pictures in my Street Photography gallery in my gallery

Blog's compatibility with different browsers

Last weekend I read my blog in my 9500 communicator and found that it wont work correctly there. After that I have tried to read it with different browsers and I have found that it works best with Mozilla Firefox. So if you have any comments about that please be free and comment if you have some thoughts or ideas.

Models in Old town II of Tallinn

Week ago I participated in my very first photography workshop in Tallinn, Estonia. It was arranged by Eesti Foto. We met all participants at 7.30am in old town on saturday morning (!;) and after that we direct our way to our first location. Our teachers started right away make preparations for our first shoot out. First location was next to Snelli pond. It was very beautiful place to shoot, but unfortunately I wasn't awake enough so that I could had nice pictures (.....maybe it was about the time 8am on saturday;) But I "woke up" after first location so I was ready for serious shoot out after first location.

During four hours we had about five locations and about 10 different sets of shooting. During different shoot outs teachers did handle basics of how to photograpg models, how to give instructions to models and how to use prevailing light with reflectors and umbrellas. I would say that I was very suprized how much big reflector can help to improve pictures. We had there Lastolite's big (1,8x1,2m) silver/white reflector what was just amazing. First time in workshop was very pleasant so I will defenetly participate in different workshops also in future.

I will publish my outcome of workshop ASAP after I activate my PBase account.

EDIT: All pictures are published in my gallery
